Michelangelo's David is kept in the Florence accademia gallery, one of the most famous museums in Florence academia gallery is best known for Michelangelos david and florence michelangelo. The Academy of the Art of Design is an art academy in Florence, Italy. The Florence Academia Gallery (Accademia di Belle Arti) has housed the original David of Michelangelo since 1873. The sculpture was brought to the Accademia for reasons of conservation, it was moved from its previous outdoor location on Piazza della Signoria. Among the notable renaissance works on display are an outstanding collection of 15th and 16th century Florentine paintings by the main artists of the renaissance in Florence. The Grand Duke of Tuscany, decreed in 1784 that all the schools of drawing in Florence be combined under one roof, under the direction of the Academia, now renamed Accademia di Belle Arti Firenze ("Academy of Fine Arts, Florence") and that it was to contain a gallery of paintings by old masters to help the studies of the young artists. The Academia, and the adjoining Gallery still occupy the premises that were assigned in via Ricasoli, a former convent and hospice.It has been decided also to include among the arts protected in this way, a conservatory of music (the Cherubini Conservatory) and a school of art restoration (the Opificio delle Pietre Dure). Florence uffizi gallery: The uffizzi gallery of Florence is one of the most visited museums in Florence, building of the palace was commenced in 1560 by Giorgio Vasari for Cosimo I de' Medici as the offices for the Florentine magistrates hence the name uffizi, meaning offices.
